Westwood Professional Services Inc., land and energy development consultants, announced the acquisition of Westwood Renewables, LLC, on August 9.

Prior to the acquisition, Westwood held a 33 percent stake in the company.

Paul Greenhagen, Westwood president, said the acquisition aids in the company’s attempts to diversify its service offerings.

“[It] allow[s] us to better serve our clients,  [and to] increase our market share with the addition of new renewable energy clients,” he said.

Founded in 2008 by Minnesota-based investors, Westwood Renewables brings together more than 50 years of combined renewable energy design and engineering experience.

The company quickly became prominent in the renewable energy industry, constructing the region’s first large-scale single axis linear tracking solar system at Saint John’s University in Collegeville, Minn.

Mario Monesterio, an engineer and design manager, will join Westwood as director of Renewables System Design group. He anticipates continued success at Westwood.

Nathan Franzen will join Westwood as director of the company’s Solar Energy business unit and he focus on expanding Westwood’s national renewable energy client base.
