Awards Process

All nominations are evaluated by David Gee, executive editor of Minnesota Business Magazine, and Tom Hubler, Hubler for Business Families, to ensure that they are indeed truly a family business.

Companies will then be invited to apply for the award and those applications will be given a through evaluation in the areas of business success, family involvement and governance, community participation and succession planning.

Minnesota Family Business Awards will be given in the following categories:

LEGACY AWARD - This award recognizes maturing Minnesota-based family businesses that have thrived and transitioned through two, three or more generations of active family participation and governance.

EMERGING AWARD - This is designed for younger businesses ranging from start-up to first generations of family ownership who are beginning the process of developing a solid foundation and infrastructure with the goal of becoming a legacy business.

Areas of Special Recognition will also be determined and recognition awarded after the selection committee works its way through the nominations.
