President Obama to Speak in Minneapolis

The American Legion announces speakers for their annual national convention.

The American Legion announced today that President Barack Obama is scheduled to speak at the American Legion’s 93rd Annual National Convention in Minnneapolis on Tuesday, August 30. The convention is scheduled to run from August 30 to September 1 with a handful of American Legion experts on veteran’s issues and military families scheduled to speak.

Though they have not announced what specifically President Obama will be addressing during his speech, they have announced that also speaking that day is: Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Sen. Al Franken of Minnesota, Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton and Minneapolis Mayor R. T. Rybak.

The convention is the American Legion’s largest annual meeting. At the meeting the Legion passes programs that determine the course of the Legion, sets membership dues for the upcoming year, and they elect a national commander and five national vice commanders to serve until the next convention.
