On Monday, President Donald Trump announced he was imposing a 30% tariff on solar cells made abroad. Clean Energy Economy Minnesota (CEEM) released the following statement from its executive director Gregg Mast regarding that decision:
"President Trump's decision to impose a 30% tariff on the solar industry deals an immediate blow to thousands of Minnesota workers. Over the past year, solar jobs grew 10 times faster than all other sectors of our state's economy. Quite simply, artificially increasing the cost of solar is bad for workers, bad for business, and bad for consumers.”
CEEM is a nonprofit organization that provides policy analysis and educational leadership to accelerate clean energy market growth. Renewable energy is a $28 billion industry that relies on parts made abroad for much of its supply. In Minnesota, the solar industry employs more than 3,000 Minnesotans.
