Women entrepreneurs, investors and community leaders are coming together to support women developing innovative ideas and start ups in Minnesota.

“WE* is about encouraging women entrepreneurs to think bigger, and makes a conscious effort to connect them with these resources and opportunities,” Laurie Healy, Director of Marketing and Communications at COCO, said in a recent release. "Women-led startups have unique needs and as a group, we are working to identify how we can collectively support them.”

Since its inception in 2015 WE* has worked to develop events and resources to support women-led startups. On Friday, September 23, during Twin Cities Startup week, WE*is hosting an event called Pitch Fest. The audience will be able to award prizes to their favorite MN Cup finalists and exciting up-and-comers. The grand prize is currently over $1,600 and growing.

Only 6% of the country’s workforce are women-owned firms. McKinsey Global Institute finds that by improving women’s participation in the labor force the world economy could add trillions of dollars in growth in the next ten years.

“People are starting to recognize the economic opportunity that exists for women entrepreneurs,” said Jenna Pederson of 612 Software Foundry and co-founder of Hack the Gap in a release. “WE* hopes to encourage more women entrepreneurs to take action because an active community now exists to support them.”
